The Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) reported that from August 3, 2019 the numbering and dialling of fixed and mobile telephony will be only 10 digits.

  • 01 for calls to non-geographic numbers and national long-distance calls.
  • 044 for calls from fixed lines to national mobile numbers in the “calling party pays” mode.
  • 045 for national long-distance calls from fixed lines to national mobile numbers in the “national calling party pays” mode.
  • 1 for incoming international long-distance calls to mobile numbers in the “calling party pays” mode.
This is in order to guarantee the availability of numbers to all telecommunication service providers, simplify and standardize dialing procedures at the national level, carry out a more efficient administration of digital resources and simplify the applicable procedures and implement electronic procedures.

The IFT informed in a press release that these changes will come into effect as of the second semester of 2019, in order to provide telecommunications service providers with “a sufficient period for the adaptation of their networks and systems, in order to guarantee the correct implementation of the technical and operational modifications necessary for the adoption of a uniform 10-digit national marking”.

At the same time, this institute will be able to modify the current numbering system and the implementation of the corresponding electronic procedures. With this, both the public body and service providers will have enough time to disseminate among the population these changes.
